EIGHT OVER FOUR – An Exhibition by Senior Print Media Students
Reception: Friday April 22nd, 6 – 9 pm
Senior print media students in the Art and Art History joint program with the University of Toronto and Sheridan College will present their work in the upcoming exhibit, Eight Over Four. The show will be installed at Gallery 50 and will be on view from April 20 – 23, 2016. These senior students have been working in various forms of media over the course of the program and chose to pursue print media for the entire duration of their undergraduate studies. The show will feature their final bodies of work. Participating artists include: Madolyn Bradley, Olivia Brouwer, Alina Cheng, Katarina Kaneff, Raphael Maturine, Felecia Niles, Mike Webber, and Suzanne Yeh.
The works produced by the students address various themes, such as identity, understanding of the self, ideas of external interpretation, and personal acceptance. While some of the artists have chosen to explore physical identities, others have sought to investigate a deeper understanding of their internal and spiritual existences. Using a range of print media processes such as silkscreen, lithography, and digital printing each artist has taken a different approach to these common underlying themes. Some subjects that come into question are: cultural and personal identities, feeling at home within one’s self, becoming comfortable and accepting of one’s body, and exploring physical and material decay.
A public closing reception for the show will be hosted at the gallery from 6-9 pm on Friday April 22nd.For more information please email participating artists at eightoverfour@gmail.com or contact Gallery 50 at 50gladstone@gmail.com.
